The Story

You wake up, lying in a puddle during a massive storm outside of a house (more like a giant mansion, but hey, you’re groggy! It’s fiiiine) called Foxglove Manor. The door opens as you beat on it asking for help (or WHERE THE HECK AM I? HOW AM I HERE? IS THIS SOME KIND OF JOKE?) to see the owner of the manor. She is a mysterious, charming lady in a well-tailored suit. She apologizes to you for your misfortune and quickly invites you inside out of the rain so that you can warm up and talk.

The entry hall is warm and inviting, as is the sitting room positioned next to the entrance. It’s finely decorated with expensive looking antique furnishings. A fireplace sits against one wall, burning away merrily while two chairs are pulled up in front of it. There’s even a small table between the chairs where a full tea service sits. It’s incredibly inviting, and you’re miserable, so you accept the invitation to sit down and warm up a bit.

Your host moves about the room; pulling a warm-looking quilt out of a chest to drape over your shoulders, pouring you a cup of tea and preparing it exactly how you would like. Even if you don’t like, or normally drink tea? It’s perfect. It warms you up, chases away some of the chill and you start to feel a little more like a person and a little less like the drowned rat you appear to be.

Finally, the woman takes a seat in the chair next to yours (a cup of tea you don’t even recall her pouring in her hands) and starts to ask you questions. Who are you? Where are you from? What do you last remember...? She even tells you a little about herself, that she’s a writer and a curator of curiosities. It’s all general conversation. She sounds like she’s concerned and trying to be helpful. Of course, there’s something coming. There had to be.

“Well, my young friend. I’m sorry, but you’ve found yourself in quite the predicament.” She smiled sadly, eyes deep, and somehow they give the impression that they’ve seen hundreds of years come and go. Maybe more...

“But fear not! Don’t lose heart! I’m sure there’s better days ahead... as long as you don’t lose yours.” She chuckles, taking a sip of tea. “Foxglove Manor will give you shelter. And we can make sure you’re fed and clothed for however long you’re a guest, if you don’t mind helping out around here. Afraid I’m rather short staffed, you see...” Her smile is soft, if a little sad. “I also wouldn’t mind trading stories, if you prefer.” The tone is hopeful, and curious, like someone who’s been alone for far too long... Before she remembers the priority here. “You’ll find it quite comfortable, really.” You open your mouth to speak, but nothing comes as those old eyes cast a glance your way. You’re not sure if you failed to speak because you thought better of it, or if you somehow lost your voice for a time...

She continued, though. “I’ve come to find this manor is often a place of choices, and of growth for those who pass through over the years... The one’s open to it, anyway. Just remember, this house is old. So old that it’s grown itself... Eyes and ears. For better or worse, your actions have consequences.”

Setting her teacup down on its saucer with a clink, she gestures to the doorway. “Feel free to explore, to find a room that suits you. You’re going to be here a while, so you might as well make yourself comfortable. Maybe even meet your fellow guests...?” And with that, the spell is broken... And when you blink? You’re alone in the room.

If you explore further, you’ll find that the house is as expansive as you expected. What you did not expect was for it to be entirely abandoned looking. It’s well furnished, yes, but everything is covered in years worth of dust. Even moving something causes a burst of it to billow out at you. The further you go, the more your heart sinks. This place... It’s horrible. There are drafts every now and again, and you could swear that you feel eyes on you when there are none.

As your feet carry you forward, you find the chills running up your spine, the cold drafts brushing against your cheek, all unconsciously guide you to a wing of the manor that’s full of bedrooms. They all seem just as abandoned and desolate as the last... Until suddenly you feel a cold blast of air and you stop. A door has blown open, slamming against the wall loudly. If you dare to peer inside? You find a room, warmly lit by oil lamps and free of dust. Fully furnished. There’s a small sitting room, a full bathroom, and a bedroom with a canopied king-size bed. It seems you’ve found just the room for you...

Welcome to Foxglove Manor! A small game in which your characters find themselves trapped in a very small, contained world that centres (unsurprisingly) around a large old Victorian manor. Here they can explore, improve, build lives and relationships among their fellow arrivals.

Or make it their life’s mission to make everyone miserable/burn down the manor. We don’t advise it. Actions have consequences and all that.

Their host ‘Theodora Scriven’ is here to be your character’s guide. She will be your main source of information and assistance. Or... at least she wants to be. She will occasionally make appearances to speak with guests, some things may lead to discovering new areas of the manor and/or clues to other aspects of this place. The character may share the conversation with others if they so choose. They may also choose not to, depending on what they’re told. Not everything she says will be important, not everything she says will pertain to the manor itself, but you can be sure that sometimes it will.

The game focuses heavily on character cooperation. There are two main focuses of the game, the overarching plot and your personal character plots. Your character is here for two reasons. Both reasons will be very unclear to them at first, but Theo will give them a better idea through conversations with her. The app itself will give you the idea that one of the themes is ‘growth.’ Whether it be because they ‘need to learn to trust’ or ‘learn to cooperate with others.’ Etc. Etc. Get as personal or silly with it as you like. If it’s a weakness that you’d like to see the character work on, you can go for it.

That said, this is not all that’s going on. More will be revealed in time!

Basically, your character’s lives and cr will be just as important (possibly even in ways you might not expect) as the investigation of the setting! We want everyone to enjoy the game in what ways interest them the most. There will be a little of everything for everyone and cover varying themes!
